Summary

The newspaper Al Sharq Al Awsat interviewed various science, business, non-profit and thought leaders about whether artificial intelligence (AI) will defeat humans or vice versa, and whether or not it will lead to a transformation in all areas of work and human life as we know it.

George Richards, director of Community Jameel, which supports the research of the Jameel Clinic at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to develop AI tools that can improve global health and wellbeing, said: "Community Jameel is well aware of the potential of AI to achieve improvements in global health".

He emphasised the MIT Jameel Clinic's focus on ensuring that AI tools "reach those with weak resources", adding that "this is the reason we are supporting the Jameel Clinic along with the British charity Wellcome Trust to develop a network of partner hospitals to disseminate these tools".
