Majid Ezzati

Research lead, Jameel Institute at Imperial College London

Majid Ezzati is a research lead at the Jameel Institute, Imperial College London, which brings together global health researchers in the College's School of Public Health to improve understanding of diseases and health emergencies in the most vulnerable global populations.

As professor of global environmental health at Imperial College, Majid's research combines concepts, data and methods from a range of environmental, health, social and quantitative sciences to answer key questions related to improving global health. This approach underpins the work of the Global Environment Health Research Group, which he directs. The group’s interdisciplinary research combines primary fieldwork with population-level modelling, integrating micro- and macro-level analyses across air pollution and climate, health forecasting, health inequalities, non-communicable diseases, nutrition and urban health.

A primary focus of Majid’s research group is investigating the impact of air quality and pollution in low- and middle-income countries, though its work also encompasses pandemics and pandemic preparedness.

In 2023, Majid and Dr Bin Zhou in collaboration with the ChineseCDC and Fuwai Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, produced groundbreaking research investigating the prevalence and distribution of hypertension in the general adult population inChina. In addition, the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC), led by Majid, brought together researchers from 18 countries to discuss achievements and the future of the collaboration.

Majid took a degree in electrical and computer engineering and a PhD in science, technology and environmental policy.
