Naïa Design House

Specially commissioned to mark the COP28 conference in Dubai, this limited edition piece is a collaboration between Naïa Design House and Community Jameel.

Inspired by the intricate geometry of traditional wooden screens – called mashrabiyas, from an Arabic word literally meaning ‘place of drinking’ – this coaster draws on designs from Bayt El Razzaz, a 15th century Mamluk mansion in the heart of Old Cairo in Egypt. An original function of the mashrabiya was to cool drinking water.

Naïa Design House was founded by Noha Ali, a graduate of the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo, a programme delivered by The King’s Foundation in collaboration with Community Jameel and the Cultural Development Fund in Egypt.
