The Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo is an education institution offering a two-year programme in the traditional arts, including courses in sacred geometry, observational drawing, colour harmony and decorative floral patterns, and specialised training in ceramics, glass and gypsum, metalwork and woodwork.
Located in Fustat in Historic Cairo, the Jameel House in Cairo was launched in 2009 and is a collaboration between The King's Foundation, Community Jameel and the Cultural Development Fund of Egypt.
The Jameel House in Cairo accepts around 20 students each year. The programme is delivered by The King's Foundation School of Traditional Arts according to the same standards as courses at its London campus.
The full graduation programme of the Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo takes place over two years – with each school year running October to June, with the final presentation given in July of the second year.
The Jameel House in Cairo two-year course combines hands-on training in traditional craft techniques with design development and project execution.
First-year students begin with intensive workshops in craft and design from October to December, followed by a term project in January and its presentation in early February, before a short mid-year break.
The second semester resumes with further workshops and a design-to-execution project cycle, ending with a final presentation in June.
The second year deepens students’ practice with specialised workshops in the first semester and a heritage-focused project presented in February.
In the final semester, students develop and execute a graduation project from February to June, culminating in a presentation and celebration of their work in July.
