Re-thinking social protection for the Digital Age

Synopsis

What does it take to put an end to global poverty? Technological transformation, global health crises, transformative technology, and intensive financial globalisation have all been blamed for exacerbated poverty indices. But is the expanding wealth gap an inevitability of progress and growth or can it be consciously mitigated? Can innovative digital systems accelerate our collective effort to put an end to poverty? Or is the solution a systemic shift? Speaking at the 2023 World Government Summit, Professor Esther Duflo, Nobel laureate and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, shares insights and tools to address the increasing rate of poverty across global social and economic systems.
