Matthew Notowidigdo

Co-scientific director, J-PAL North America

Matthew Notowidigdo is a co-scientific director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) North America. He is also a professor of economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His research broadly focuses on labour and health economics. He studies the causes and economic consequences of unemployment duration and insurance, as well as the impacts of health and health insurance on labor markets.

In 2008, Matthew was selected to participate in the Lindau Nobel Laureate meetings. He received the Carleton B Tucker Award for Outstanding Teaching from MIT, as well as Excellence in Refereeing Awards from the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the American Economic Review and the Journal of the European Economic Association. He holds a master's in engineering and a PhD in economics from MIT.
