Fábio Duarte is a 2023 principal investigator and Solutions Grant recipient for Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS). Through the grant, Fabio is working to refine the design of the prototype Novel Spectrofluorometer for Online Early Detection of Harmful Algal Blooms and ready the sensor for commercial deployment.
Fábio is a lecturer in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) department of urban studies and planning and a principal research scientist at the MIT Senseable City Lab and MIT Centre for Real Estate. He serves as a consultant in urban planning and mobility for the World Bank Group.
Fábio has authored several books including "Urban play: make-believe, technology and space" (MIT Press, 2021) and "Unplugging the city: the urban phenomenon and its sociotechnical controversies" (Routledge, 2018).
Fábio holds a PhD in communication and technology from the Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil.
