From paralympian to water security specialist: Meet the 2024 class of Young Global Leaders

Two members of the Community Jameel network of supported scientists and researchers, Anna Schrimpf and Fadel Adib, have been named as Class of 2024 Young Global Leaders, in the academia/think-tank sector.

Anna Schrimpf is the executive director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) Europe, where she provides strategic and administrative direction to J-PAL's research and policy efforts to alleviate poverty. She is a specialist in political science and developing global education access, and has supported the work of non-governmental organisations, think-tanks and government agencies in America and Europe. Anna is also an active researcher and currently a co-principal investigator on a large childhood immunisation study conducted by J-PAL South Asia.

Fadel Adib was a 2019 principal investigator at the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) and former principal investigator at the MIT Jameel Clinic. As an associate professor at MIT's D-Lab, his research group develops innovative technologies and algorithms for wireless perception, networking and sensing. Fadel's 2019 J-WAFS funded research project, 'Learning food and water contaminants using wireless signals', responded to food safety and foodborne illness challenges by developing a food safety sensor that uses wireless signals to determine food quality and safety using an RFID sticker placed on a food product’s container.
