Global notes: Laura Mekhail and Amira Fouad at Dubai Opera
Synopsis
Egyptian soprano and 2021 Bocelli-Jameel scholarship recipient Laura Mekhail makes her debut at the Dubai Opera Studio with artist, director of Encore and concert pianist Amira Fouad for an exclusive performance as part of the new 'Global Notes' concert series presented by Dubai Opera and Encore, the leading performing arts company in Dubai which specialises in classical music and the arts, in collaboration with Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai.
Laura was the first Arab recipient of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation-Community Jameel Scholarship at the Royal College of Music, one of the world's leading conservatoires, where she graduated in 2023. In this concert, she performs a magical recital of classical arias from Puccini, Rossini and Bizet and legendary Arabic works by Farid Al-Atrash and Mohammed Abdel Wahab. Alongside music from the Baroque period, as well as arias from Handel’s 'Theadora', Puccini’s 'Madame Butterfly' and Bizet’s 'Carmen', Laura demonstrates her versatility, singing pieces by Argentinian composer Piazolla and favourites from the West End, including 'Les Miserables' and 'Carousel.'
Accompanying her is Amira Fouad, the acclaimed pianist and artistic director of Encore. Amira has performed at renowned concert halls such as Bösendorfer Hall in Vienna, Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto, Usher Hall in Edinburgh, The National Concert Hall in Dublin, Cairo Opera House, St John’s Smith Square, Cadogan Hall and Wigmore Hall in London. She has also performed with various orchestras internationally such as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Cairo Symphony Orchestra.
