Youssef Azzam

COP27 Youth Delegate

Youssef Azzam is an Egyptian engineer and musician. He graduated from NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a minor in film and new media. During the academic year 2019-2020, he was a Junior Strategy and Entrepreneurship Analyst for Community Jameel, an independent, global organisation advancing science to help communities thrive in a rapidly changing world. In 2022, Youssef was a Youth Delegate for Community Jameel at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Youssef established the GCC's first Model Arab League (MAL) student group and conference, focusing on youth empowerment and leadership development. He led 200+ members into winning awards from Cairo, Rabat and Washington D.C. Simultaneously, he implemented projects focused on strategy development, social impact, and sustainable livelihoods in Egypt, Jordan, India, and the United Arab Emirates.

As a musician, Youssef founded his band Shaghaf (Arabic for passion). Fostering a growing interest in the MENA music scene, he analyses technology's impact on the artistic process. Youssef focuses on the internet's effect on music-making, musicians' abilities to release music, and how music is discovered and shared through social media. He aspires to lead a technology business in the domains of social impact and sustainable development.
