Barathkumar Baskaran is an Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) 2023 Travel Grant recipient and PhD candidate in the department of chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Barathkumar's research on electrochemically filtered drinking water is focused on designing an energy-efficient system to treat N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a contaminant of concern as a disinfection by-product. He is a trainee under the MIT Superfund Research Program, where researchers in multiple areas such as toxicology, environmental engineering and chemistry work to understand NDMA’s impacts and potential remediation approaches.
