Sounding the alarm, bolstering defenses

An early warning system to help mitigate the impact of climate disasters in the world’s most vulnerable regions has been selected as one of the finalists for the MIT Climate Grand Challenges 2022. Professor Elfatih Eltahir, professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT and Lincoln Lab co-leads John Aldridge and Deborah Campbell, are developing a cutting-edge forecasting system called the Jameel Observatory Climate Resilience Early Warning System (Jameel Observatory-CREWSnet). According to Eltahir, "The basic idea behind the Jameel Observatory-CREWSnet is to reinvent the process of climate change adaptation. It integrates a lot of expertise and knowledge and tools that we have developed in different corners of the Institute, pulling them together to help those vulnerable communities."
