Giant 'living tractors' are bringing nature back to post-industrial wastelands
The BBC speaks to Alon Schwabe about how water-buffalo – so-called “living tractors” – are “helping to rehabilitate post-industrial landscapes and rewild the countryside”, including in the wetlands outside Istanbul, Türkiye, the focus of a major project by CLIMAVORE x Jameel at RCA. Now heavy development to the area threatens the delicately-balanced ecosystem that supports the landscape, the buffalo and the pastoralist herders who farm them for milk.
