On 27 February 2023, the Jameel Arts & Health Lab launches at The National Arts Club as a global initiative between the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe, the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University, Community Jameel and CULTURUNNERS. Focused on overlooked and underserved communities, the lab will coordinate and amplify scientific research into the effectiveness of the arts in improving health and wellbeing to drive policy implementation across 193 UN member states.
The event is hosted by the vice chairman of Community Jameel, Fady Jameel and NYU Steinhardt's Gale and Ira Drukier Dean, Jack H. Knott.
The founding directors of the lab are Christopher Bailey, arts and health lead, WHO; Nisha Sajnani, founder of Arts + Health @ NYU; Stephen Stapleton, founder and CEO, CULTURUNNERS; and Nils Fietje, technical officer, WHO Europe.
